PASTORAL PLANNING IN THE DIOCESE OF SCRANTON

A PARISH SURVEY FOR OUR LADY OF THE LAKE CHURCH (ourlady@ptd.net)

1.      What do you appreciate most about your parish? What impact does your parish have on your faith? What are a few areas where you hope to grow stronger?

2.      Do you feel connected to others in your parish?  What do you think are the core values of our parish community?

3.      What is important to you about our liturgy and why is it important? Is the music done well and is it an integral part of our liturgies? Do the homilies speak to your life? Are the Eucharist and Sacraments celebrated prayerfully and according to diocesan directives?

4.      What are some ways that the liturgy and sacramental life of the parish could be enhanced?

5.      How would you rate our parish education at the various stages of faith formation?  Do we provide quality catechetical programs for children and youth of all ages?  Does the parish provide opportunities for families to grow in faith? What opportunities do you see in your parish to increase the effectiveness of evangelization and life-long faith formation (from “womb to tomb”)? How well do we support and encourage Catholic education?

6.      What would help to create a strong awareness of the need for vocations to ordained

ministry, religious life and the lay apostolate?

7.      How well do we welcome newcomers and reach out to the alienated, inactive, and unchurched? How can we improve these efforts? How does the parish currently call forth the gifts of our people and empower them to use them in service? What bold steps might we take to enhance our personal and parish’s stewardship of time, talent and treasure?

8.      What social justice challenges have we addressed?  What other areas can we embrace to make a more positive difference in our parish, our region and ultimately the world?

9.      What needs our immediate attention in terms of staffing the parish and facilities?

10.  What are two or three hopes you have for the future of the Catholic community in your area?

11.  How do you envision working with other parishes to create a viable future of Catholic life in your community, especially given the diminishing number of priests?

12.  How can we support each other in taking the next steps in the Called to Holiness and Mission process?
